The Padmavati Controversy
Padmavati is an upcoming Hindi movie which is going to be released on December 1. The movie is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are the main stars in the film.
The movie is based on the legend of Rani Padmavati, a Rajput queen. The movie has been embroiling controversy since the commencement of production.
Several groups demand a ban on this movie. Some vandalized the movie sets for distorting history.
Several allegations were received from groups like Shri Rajput Karni Sena. They alleged that the movie depicts inaccurate facts. The movie was constantly attacked by their threats and attacks.
The Sena group also stated that they will call for a Bharat Bandh on December 1 on which the movie is expected to release. They also threatened that they will gather in lakhs and will not allow anyone to black history.
The UP CM wrote to the Centre about the movie stating that the movie release can be a big threat to the law and order in the state.
Earlier this week a cinema hall in Rajasthan’s Kota that was screening the movie trailer was targeted by a Rajput group. Several shops in the nearby location to the hall were vandalized by Rajput Karni Sena.
More than one lakh members gathered at Gandhinagar and thousands of people participated in protest march in Surat against this movie.
Rashtriya Ekatha Manch also demanded that the objectionable content should be deleted before the movie releases.
The granddaughter of the last ruler of Jaipur said that the film-maker is seeking to highlight the romantic angle in the queen rather than highlighting her sacrifice in the movie.
Several Rajputs are condemning the movie for the heinous portrayal of their queen.
Some groups even announced a bounty in crores of rupees on the heads of Sanjay Bhansali and Deepika Padukone.
