Noida Traffic Police target repeat offenders

In a robust move against habitual traffic violators, the Noida Traffic Police have pinpointed a staggering 2,20,000 vehicles that flouted traffic rules multiple times from January last year to November this year.

The revelation comes after a crucial road safety meeting convened by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on December 2, where he directed the transport department to take stringent action.

It includes suspending or cancelling driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations, against repeat offenders.

The data, sourced from the National Informatics Centre, underscores the commitment to enhancing road safety and penalizing those jeopardizing it through repeated violations.

The identified vehicles are now slated to face consequences for their disregard of traffic regulations.

In a parallel effort to mitigate road accidents during winter, the Noida police have imposed new speed limits on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway.

Effective until February 15, heavy vehicles on the expressway are now limited to 50 kmph, while lighter vehicles, including cars, have a speed cap of 75 kmph.

The expressway, a vital 25-km long route connecting Noida and Greater Noida, witnesses substantial daily traffic.

To reinforce safety measures, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissionerate has introduced a traffic helpline number for commuters facing inconvenience.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police issued a stern warning, emphasizing legal repercussions for violations.

Offenders exceeding the speed limit face a ₹2,000 fine, and drivers accumulating more than three challans risk license suspension, with repeated offences leading to vehicle registration cancellation.

The move aligns with the broader goal of curbing road accidents, a prevalent concern in the region.

Officials report around one thousand accidents this year, resulting in nearly 400 fatalities across Noida and Greater Noida.

The enforcement of over 14 lakh challans this year, more than double the count from 2022, signals a heightened commitment to instilling road discipline and safeguarding lives.

As the Noida Traffic Police intensifies its crackdown on repeat traffic offenders, the measures underscore the urgency of prioritizing road safety. Also, these ensure compliance with traffic regulations for all commuters on the expressway.
