Importance of June 21
The world witnessed a rare solar eclipse yesterday, i.e. on June 21, 2020. June 21 marks the longest day of the year.
The summer solstice occurs between June 20 and 22 every year. This time, it was observed on June 21 at 3:13 a.m. in India.
Apart from this, Father’s Day occurred on June 21, 2020. Father’s Day is observed on the third Sunday in June every year. This time it falls on June 21.
Besides, June 21 has many other specialities:
- International Yoga Day is observed on June 21 each year since 2015 to promote awareness on the benefits of Yoga in daily life across the globe. Yesterday, the world celebrated the 6th International Yoga Day. International Yoga Day comes with different themes each year. This year’s theme was Yoga for Health – Yoga at Home due to COVID-19.
- World Hydrography Day is observed on June 21 every year since 2006. It was started by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). It aims to protect marine life and promote safe navigation.
- World Humanist Day is also celebrated based on the June solstice each year across the globe. It usually falls on June 21. The aim of the day is to promote humanism and its positive values to impact the world.
- Several countries celebrate International T-shirt Day on June 21. It is also based on the summer solstice. T-shirts are usually used in summer. Hence, a particular day is dedicated to T-shirts. The first International T-Shirt Day was celebrated in Berlin, Germany and Boston, the United States in 2008. Later many other countries also started celebrating it.
- The International Music Day or World Music Day is also observed on June 21 aiming to promote music.
