Fake protein supplement factory busted in Noida
The growing popularity of protein supplements among fitness enthusiasts has brought serious health risks, with fake products flooding the market.
A recent case in Noida exposed the dangers after a resident, Atim Singh, fell seriously ill from consuming counterfeit protein powder ordered online.
Singh, who suffered liver and stomach issues along with facial breakouts, filed a complaint with the Noida Police on December 9.
The investigation led to a factory in Greater Noida’s Sector 86, where a joint team of police and Food Safety and Drug Administration officials conducted a raid.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthi revealed that the raid uncovered a large-scale operation involving counterfeit gym supplements.
Three men were caught filling empty containers in a basement labelled as completely nutritious.
Upon inspection, they failed to produce any manufacturing license, leading to their arrest.
Authorities seized protein powder containers, capsule boxes, packaging equipment, powder sacks, and seals worth ₹50 lakh.
Three men were identified as culprits. These three were running the illegal factory.
They sold fake supplements online at rates four to five times higher than their production cost, targeting athletes and gym-goers.
Police investigations revealed that Sahil had previously worked at a food supplement firm in Haryana between 2017 and 2018.
Gaining industry knowledge, he launched his own operation on December 1 with Harsh and Amit as partners.
The trio sourced low-cost raw materials to manufacture and market the fake products.
The case underscores the health risks posed by counterfeit supplements. Singh’s health deteriorated due to the harmful ingredients in these products, highlighting the need for vigilance when purchasing fitness supplements.
Officials have emphasized stricter monitoring of the supplement market to prevent such operations.
This incident serves as a reminder for consumers to verify the authenticity of health products before use, ensuring their safety and well-being.
