Kanwar Yatra 2025: Major traffic diversions in Delhi-NCR

As the holy month of Shravan begins, thousands of Shiva devotees gear up for the Kanwar Yatra, starting July 11.

With lakhs expected to participate, authorities across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad have issued major traffic advisories to manage the influx of pilgrims.

Noida Traffic Diversions:

  • Goods vehicles from Chilla Red Light heading to Ghaziabad, Hapur, or Moradabad must take the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) via Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
  • Traffic from DND Flyway, Delhi-Badarpur Border, and Okhla Barrage will also be diverted to the EPE.
  • Heavy vehicles from areas such as NIB, Model Town, Chhijarsi, and Tajpur will follow the same redirection.
  • The MP-01 elevated road will also be under diversion towards the EPE.
  • The stretch from Chilla Red Light to Pakshi Vihar Gate is closed to all traffic.

Greater Noida Updates:

  • Vehicles from Aligarh, Bulandshahr, and Sikandrabad via NH-91 must now use the EPE to reach Delhi.
  • Traffic from Secunderabad, Pari Chowk, and Kasna will be rerouted through the Sirsa roundabout.

Ghaziabad Restrictions:

  • Heavy vehicles heading to Hapur or Meerut must take NH-9 via UP Gate, Dasna, and the EPE.
  • Entry from Loni, Seemapuri, Tulsi Niketan, and Anand Vihar borders into Ghaziabad is strictly prohibited.
  • Traffic to Haridwar, Moradabad, or Lucknow can use UP Gate and NH-9 to reach EPE.
  • Vehicles from Baghpat to Delhi will go via Tronica City and Sonia Vihar.
  • Indirapuram will see no heavy vehicle entry from the NH-09 routes.
  • Traffic from Hapur or Bulandshahr to Ghaziabad must stick to NH-09.
  • The Delhi-Meerut Expressway stretch from Kashi Toll Plaza to UP Gate (56 km) will stay closed till July 23.

Delhi Impact:

  • Expect slowdowns on major roads, including Nangloi-Najafgarh, Rohtak Road, Janakpuri, and the Outer Ring Road.
  • Kanwariyas will enter Delhi from seven borders and exit from four key ones.
  • Large camps will cause traffic delays in key areas.

The Kanwar Yatra will bring both spiritual fervour and massive logistical shifts. Plan your commute wisely during this period.
