New Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway changes UP’s connectivity

New Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway to transform UP’s connectivity by 2026

In a major push to expand Uttar Pradesh’s expressway network, a new 380-km greenfield expressway from Ghaziabad to Kanpur is currently under construction.

Set to benefit nine districts including Ghaziabad, the expressway will bring substantial reductions in travel time and stimulate economic growth across the region.

At present, travelling from Delhi-Ghaziabad to Kanpur takes around seven to eight hours.

This expressway will cut that time down to five and a half hours, transforming long journeys into faster, more efficient commutes.

The project is overseen by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under Nitin Gadkari.

It is a part of the ministry’s ambitious infrastructure plans aimed at enhancing road connectivity and convenience for travellers nationwide.

Beyond reducing travel time, this expressway will have significant benefits for the economy in these nine districts, fostering regional industrial growth and easing transportation for local businesses.

Specific zones have been identified along the route for industrial expansion, positioning these areas for future development and improved trade.

The expressway will connect to key routes: the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway to the south and the Ghaziabad-Hapur Highway (NH-9) to the north.

Originally, the project planned to run between Hapur and Kanpur, but now includes a 60-km connector road from the Meerut Expressway to Hapur.

This addition enhances connectivity between Meerut, Hapur, and nearby areas, further boosting regional accessibility.

Initially, the expressway will open as a four-lane road, but with provisions to expand to six lanes as demand grows.

It is also expected to link with Noida’s Jewar Airport, or Noida International Airport, directly connecting Kanpur to Delhi’s metropolitan area.

This strategic connection will enhance both passenger and cargo movement, strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s role as a critical transit hub.

Scheduled for completion by 2026, the Ghaziabad-Kanpur expressway is set to reshape the industrial and transport landscape in Uttar Pradesh. Once operational, it will provide quicker, more convenient travel from Delhi-NCR to Kanpur and neighbouring cities.

Besides, it will unlock economic opportunities and solidify UP’s position in the country’s industrial and transportation networks.
