Dwarka Expressway: India’s landmark infrastructure project

The Dwarka Expressway is India’s first of its kind. The expressway boasts unique infrastructure features that set it apart from other highways.

Though it is the shortest expressway in the country, it has many interesting features.

It stretches 29 kilometres and connects Delhi and Gurugram.

With a 23 km elevated section and a 4 km underground stretch, the expressway ensures smooth connectivity across Delhi and Gurugram.

This expressway is designed to ease traffic congestion, particularly on the busy Delhi-Gurugram Expressway (NH-48). It is a significant addition to the region’s transport network.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Dwarka Expressway is its toll plaza. It features 34 booths, making it the largest toll plaza in the country. Toll rates vary based on vehicle type.

For cars, jeeps, and vans, the fee is ₹105 for a one-way trip and ₹155 for a round trip. Buses and trucks are charged ₹355 for a one-way trip, while the round-trip fare is ₹535.

The expressway provides vital links between key locations. It connects Dwarka in Delhi to various sectors of Gurugram, facilitating access to important areas.

Some of these areas include the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the upcoming Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station, and Diplomatic Enclave II.

By enhancing these connections, the expressway is expected to drastically cut down travel time between Haryana and Delhi’s IGI Airport to just 30 minutes after its official opening.

The project is part of a broader initiative to improve urban infrastructure and transportation.

Its large-scale design, including elevated and underground sections, not only ensures faster travel but also contributes to the overall development of the region.

By reducing congestion and offering seamless connectivity, the Dwarka Expressway is set to become a critical artery in the National Capital Region.

As one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, this expressway promises to improve the daily commute for thousands. At the same time, it also aims to set new standards in highway construction.
