Clean vegetables and fruits naturally
In order to control pests and increase farming yield, pesticides are used. Hence, fruits and vegetables are contaminated with pesticides if they are not cleaned before consuming. As a result, they may result in damaging your health.
Here are some natural ways to clean vegetables and fruits:
- Rinse fruits and vegetables under cold running water. This is the most common cleaning method used in many Indian households. Remove stickers and packaging when rinsing. Remove the dirt with your hands for firm vegetables after cleaning them once. Repeat the process. Soak leafy vegetables in a bowl of water for some time and rinse them. Repeat the process as many times as needed.
- Add one teaspoon of salt or baking soda in a litre of water and soak the vegetables for a few minutes. Then use them. Fruits require more time to be cleaned off pesticides.
- Add 10 per cent white vinegar in 90 per cent water. Soak vegetables and fruits for 20 to 30 minutes in it. Then clean them with normal water. This cleans them and keeps them fresh for a longer time.
- Blanching is another cleaning process. Boil water in a bowl and keep it aside. Now keep vegetables in it for two minutes. Then clean them with cold water or transfer them into a bowl of ice cubes to prevent the loss of flavour and texture.
- Make a vegetable cleaner spray and clean with it. Add one tablespoon of lemon juice and two tablespoons of white vinegar in a cup of water. Rub this solution on vegetables for 30 seconds. Then clean with cold water. Pour the remaining liquid in a glass jar to use it within a couple of days. You can make this cleaning liquid whenever you need it.
