Zerund Bricks: A Green Revolution in Construction

In the bustling city of Guwahati, Zerund Bricks, a startup founded in 2018 has emerged as a beacon of innovation in the building material industry.

It was founded by Rupam Choudhury, Mousum Talukdar, and David Pratim Gogoi.

The trio, initially students working on their final year project, transformed their vision of environmentally friendly construction materials into a successful business endeavour.

Zerund’s journey began with the development of plastic lightweight bricks. They were crafted from a unique blend of waste materials sourced from thermal plants, cement, and more.

Comprising an impressive 70% recycled waste material, the bricks have become a sustainable alternative for construction projects.

Overcoming the initial challenges of limited capital, the founders secured support from two angel investors, paving the way for bulk production of their eco-friendly bricks.

In their pursuit of creating value, Zerund focused on ensuring that their bricks offered superior cost-effectiveness and were lighter than traditional alternatives.

Through rigorous trials and innovative plastic mixing techniques, the team overcame obstacles to unveil the final product in July 2018.

The manufacturing facility, based in Pathsala, Assam, now recycles nearly 100 kgs of plastic daily, contributing significantly to waste reduction.

Zerund’s mission revolves around providing cost-effective, environmentally friendly bricks. They incorporate ash from plastic waste, thermal power plants, cement, and other sources.

Employing electric machines instead of kilns, the startup actively reduces carbon emissions.

These bricks, weighing 10% less than regular ones, have found applications in apartments, commercial complexes, and government organizations across various states. These include Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland etc.

The startup’s success story is compelling, having served over 1000 clients and achieving sales worth 1.1 crore rupees in just a year and a half.

Zerund’s commitment to sustainable practices and resilience in the face of challenges is an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Their story underscores the importance of dedication and learning from mistakes, proving that hard work is indeed the key to transforming innovative ideas into impactful realities.
