On May 28, the royal family of Mysuru will be crowing its new heir: Maharaja Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar. He is the grandson of Princess Gayathri Devi, the eldest daughter of the last Maharaja of Mysuru.

The crowning ceremony will be a grand symbolic one held at the Amba Vilas Palace.

The 23 year old scion of Mysuru is the 27th prince of Mysuru. He was formally adopted by Queen Pramoda Devi after a yearlong hiatus. She is the widow of the last scion Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.

The adoption ceremony was a private affair and was only attended by the family members and friends of the royal family.


The coronation ceremony will be a two day event starting on May 27 at the Kalyana Mantap. To witness event, over 1000 special guests are attending. This includes the royal family members, close family relatives and friends.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues are also expected to attend the ceremony. Even the tourists will be allowed to attend between 10 am and 1pm on May 26. The entry will be banned for tourists on May 27 and 28.

After the ceremony, he will ascend on silver throne. He, along with his biological parents and close family members, will visit around ten temples to seek God’s blessings.
