Know about the Sheopur Kalan
The Sheopur narrow gauge train of Madhya Pradesh is said to be the longest running narrow train in India. The famous train has five coaches and they are usually completely filled with people. Travelers from all over the country travel in this train to enjoy the journey.
It is a very long running train, so long that it used to have a steam engine earlier. Now, the train runs on a diesel engine.
There are usually many people who travel on the roof the train. There could be as many people on the roof as there are on the coach.
The train is an unreserved train. Anyone who wants to travel in the train should follow a first come first serve policy. One can sit anywhere one finds space. As a popular train, it travels with a heavy load of passengers. It often carries far beyond its capacity.
The train departs at 6:20 in the morning. People usually start queuing up for the train at the station by 4 am. This helps them find a set on the train.
With such a heavy load, the train goes at an average speed of 35 kilometers per hour. Its journey is 198 km long. The train finishes its journey in 11 hours.
The narrow tracks of the train are quite small. They are about two feet wide. There are only two trains that pass through the station, one in the morning and the other in the evening. They are both very old and were steam engines earlier.
The track it travels on is the smallest narrow gauge. It is a quarter inch smaller than the one in Dholpur, Rajasthan. In its long journey, the train covers a total of 28 stations. The train happens to be the only train that halts in many stations.
