Delhi approves quota jobs for EWS
In the wake of upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi, the government is focusing on attracting the common public.
The Centre made a provision for a reservation to the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) category in the month of January this year by bringing the 124th amendment in the Constitution.
The quota is above 50 per cent reservation given to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes which makes the total reservation 60 per cent.
As per the bill, the special provision is given to EWS category in admissions in all government as well as private education institutions, and in government jobs.
The families who get annual income of up to ₹8 lakh are considered as EWS as per the bill. They should not own more than five acres of agricultural land to get reservations.
Also, they should not own a flat of more than 1000 square feet, land of more than 100 square yards and 200 square yards in notified and non-notified areas respectively.
Several reports stated that this is also one of the reasons for the storm victory of Modi government in the recent elections.
Several state governments including Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh have already implemented this reservation of 10 per cent for the poor that belong to upper castes.
Now, the Delhi government also joined with them by approving a 10 per cent reservation for the EWS in government jobs.
The AAP government issued a circular on this in which it is stated that the reservation will be applicable for all vacancies in various government departments with effect from February 1, 2019.
All government boards, corporations, public sector units and autonomous bodies of Delhi will also come under this category.
