66th Republic Day of India
The Republic Day of India is celebrated on the 26th of January every year. It is created to celebrate the sovereignty of India. The first Republic Day was started in the year 1950. This was the day the constitution of India was adopted.
This was the day that India became a democratic republic. The Constitution of India was officially bought into force. It replaced the Government of India Act 1935.
The main signature event of Republic Day is the Republic Day Parade held in the capital of India New Delhi. This year the US president Barack Obama is expected to visit India on the day. There are many pre cautions being taken to ensure safety on that day. It is expected that nearly 1.25 lakh people will visit the parade on this day. This is 25,000 more than the usual number of people who visit the parade.

- Republic Day Parade at Shivaj Park or Marine Drive in Mumbai
- In Bangalore, Republic Day is celebrated at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, which holds a parade and cultural fair.
- In Kolkata, Republic Day parade is held along the Red Road.
- In Chennai, Republic Day celebrations take place at Marina Beach and Kamaraj Salai.
