Google Doodle chronicles India's tech evolution on 75th Republic Day

As India celebrates its 75th Republic Day, Google pays tribute with a special doodle, tracing the nation’s journey from analogue TVs to smartphones.

The doodle has been crafted by guest artist Vrinda Zaveri. The doodle captures the evolution of technology and the changing face of India’s Republic Day parade.

Marking the occasion of gaining independence in 1947 and becoming a republic on January 26, 1950, India has witnessed a remarkable technological shift.

The doodle ingeniously features two TV sets and a mobile phone, cleverly incorporating the ‘G’ of Google into the first analogue television set. The screens form the ‘O’s of ‘GOOGLE,’ with the remaining letters displayed on the mobile handset.

The first TV screen showcases the parade in black and white, symbolizing the early days of television technology.

In contrast, the second TV screen displays a colourful camel contingent, representing the transition to modern technology.

A note on the doodle says that the doodle celebrates India’s Republic Day, to commemorate January 26, 1950, on which the Constitution of India was adopted.

As India gears up for its 75th Republic Day celebrations, the theme centres on showcasing the strength of Indian women and democratic values.

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to be the chief guest, joining President of India Droupadi Murmu in leading a 90-minute parade at the ceremonial boulevard.

The Google Doodle not only commemorates India’s historical milestones but also underlines the impact of technology on Republic Day festivities. From traditional TV sets displaying black and white parades to the ubiquitous presence of smartphones, the doodle reflects the nation’s technological progress in honouring its Republic Day traditions.

As India marches into its 75th year as a republic, the doodle serves as a visual testament to the country’s transformative journey and the role of technology in shaping its commemorative rituals.
