Working while studying to be banned in UK
On Monday, The UK has made an announcement to ban overseas students who are from outside the European Union from working while they do their study within the country. This new rule is set to start from the next month. These strong new rules are being started by the Home Secretary Theresa May.
This new rule will affect many students from countries like India. These new rules are applicable solely to non-EU students. Out of the immigrants, non-EU students accounted for 121,000 last year. Once their education is over, only 51,000 of these foreign students left the United Kingdom. This left a net inflow of 70,000.
May has used these numbers to defend her efforts for the stricter rules. Her aim is to prevent immigrants using schools as a “back door to a British visa”. Furthermore, she has banned 870 “bogus colleges” and prevented them from accepting foreign students.
James Brokenshire, the UK immigration minister stated that students from outside the European Union who come to the country with the purpose of studying at publicly-funded further education (FE) colleges in Britain will no longer have the right to work for up to ten hours every week starting from next month. Another rule set for non-EU students apart from stopping them to work while they study is that they’ll not be able to apply for a visa once their course finishes.
