Delhi government launches Delhi Model Virtual School

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the Delhi Model Virtual School on Wednesday for students of Classes 9-12. The school is affiliated with the Delhi Board of School Education.

Students between 13 and 18 years from across the country can apply for admission to the Delhi Model Virtual School. The school was launched for children who cannot go to school physically.

Besides, the Delhi Model Virtual School (DMVS) also provides support to learners in the preparation for various competitive exams like JEE, NEET etc.

Students can attend live classes. In addition, they can access recorded class sessions as well as study material. They are provided with skill-based education.

Also, they can work part-time while studying at the DMVS. Students can also access the digital library and recorded lectures.

Students of DMVS will be given a login ID and password through which they can attend classes and access materials.

While launching the school, CM Kejriwal said that the Delhi government was starting India’s first virtual school.

However, the claim was denied by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), saying that the first virtual school in India was launched by the Centre last year, but not by the Delhi government.

The Union Education Minister launched India’s first virtual school in August last year. NIOS also said that more than 1,500 study centres were providing support to students of NIOS Virtual Open School in skill-based vocational courses. These study centres also conduct live interactive classes for students.

The number of learners has been increasing year on year. In the first session, around 2 lakh assignments were uploaded by the learners of NIOS Virtual Open School. Now, the number reached nearly 5 lakhs. The NIOS expects the number will cross 10 lakh assignments in the current academic session.
