Delhiites can travel in electric buses for 3 days for free
The Delhi government is all set to flag off 150 new electric buses today. It announced free travel in these new buses for Delhiites.
The government recently approved the introduction of electric buses into public transportation. It approved 1,500 electric buses phase-wise. Overall, it aimed to procure around 2,000 buses in the coming years.
These low-floor electric buses will be introduced into the fleet of public transportation of the Delhi government. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is going to roll out 150 electric new buses today.
On this occasion, the Delhi government announced that Delhiites would be able to travel in these new buses free of cost for three days.
Earlier this year, CM Kejriwal flagged off the first electric bus in January, saying that the government would change the public transport system into eco-friendly in the national capital.
The electric buses have many modern features. They have CCTV cameras, panic buttons bus and a hooter. They also have a two-way central command and control centre (CCC) at Kashmere Gate.
They are divyang-friendly as they come with kneeling ramps for them. In addition to that, these buses have pink seats for women. There are two e-bus depots for these electric buses – one at Mundela Kalan and another at Rohini Sector 37.
Mundela Kalan depot is the first fully electrified bus depot in Delhi. It spread over 4.5 acres. It has 32 DC fast EV chargers.
Additional facilities of this bus depot include three guardrooms. Besides, it has four service pits and two dry pits.
On the other hand, Rohini Sector 37 is situated on seven acres of land. It is the second fully electrified bus depot in the national capital. It has 48 DC fast EV chargers. It also has four service pits and two dry pits.
