TS CM to unveil a 125-ft tall statue of B R Ambedkar
The tallest statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the principal architect of India’s constitution, is set to be unveiled in Hyderabad.
The unveiling ceremony of the 125-ft tall statue of B R Ambedkar will take place in Hyderabad today. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will inaugurate on a grand scale to celebrate the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.
An official release stated that Ambedkar’s grandson, Prakash Ambedkar, has been invited as the only chief guest for the occasion.
The 125-ft statue, which took two years to manufacture, has been placed next to the State Secretariat, opposite the Buddha statue and the Telangana Martyrs memorial.
The statue’s sculptor, 98-year-old Padma Bhushan awardee Ram Vanji Sutar, has been invited to the event.
Telangana Chief Minister KCR recently held a meeting with Ministers and officials to finalize plans for the inauguration.
It was decided that flower petals would be showered on the statue from a helicopter during the floral tribute paying ceremony on Friday.
Over 35,000 people from all 119 constituencies are expected to attend, with 300 people from each constituency.
To accommodate this, 750 state-run Road Transport Corporation buses will be operated for the public.
Food will be arranged for people who come to the assembly complex within 50 km of Hyderabad.
Also, they will distribute one lakh sweet packets and 1.50 lakh butter milk packets and an equal number of water packets made available for the public.

Dr Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, and is affectionately known as Babasaheb, or the ‘Father of Indian Constitution’.
He fought against the caste system in India and the socio-economic deprivation that afflicted millions of Indians.
His original name was Ambavadekar. But it was changed by his teacher to his own surname ‘Ambedkar’ in school records.
BR Ambedkar was the first Minister of Law and Justice. He stayed in office from August 29, 1947, to January 24, 1950.
Ambedkar converted to Buddhism before his death. He died on December 6, 1956, in Delhi.
Dr Ambedkar’s contributions to Indian society and his fight against the caste system are remarkable.
