PM Modi unveils 55-feet tall Hanuman statue in Kerala

The Sri Seetharamaswamy temple in Punkunnam, Thrissur, Kerala, recently made headlines.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the tallest Hanuman statue in the state.

The statue, standing at 55 ft tall, is a testament to Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.

Its unveiling has been accompanied by a laser show depicting scenes from the Ramayana.


The temple’s Kumbabishekam celebrations provided a fitting occasion to dedicate the Hanuman statue and a 22-carat gold-covered sopanam to Lord Seetharam, Swami Ayyappan, and Lord Shiva.

The Sri Seetharamaswamy temple in Punkunnam, Thrissur, Kerala, has become home to Kerala’s tallest Hanuman statue.

The statue was unveiled virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Standing at a height of 55 ft, the statue comprises a 35 ft tall Hanuman figure and a 20 ft base.

The statue has been carved from a single stone. It took three months for the completion. A team of 30 artisans led by sculptor V. Subrahmanyam Acharya created it in Andhra Pradesh’s Nadhyal district.

The statue’s unveiling was accompanied by a laser show that depicted key scenes from the Ramayana. The event was organized at a cost of ₹2.5 crores, according to a press release.

In his virtual address to devotees, Prime Minister Modi highlighted Thrissur’s status as the cultural capital of Kerala. In this context, PM lauded the traditions, spirituality, festivals, and arts converge of the state.

Besides, he praised the Sri Seetharamaswamy temple as a testament to Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.

He dedicated the 22-carat gold-covered sopanam to Lord Seetharam, Swami Ayyappan, and Lord Shiva.

The sopanam, which costs ₹12 crores, used 18 kg of gold. It serves as a staircase leading to the temple’s main entrance.

The Sri Seetharamaswamy temple’s Kumbabishekam celebrations provided a fitting occasion to unveil the Hanuman statue and sopanam, symbols of devotion and spirituality.

The temple’s organizers have expressed gratitude to the sculptors and sponsors who made the creations possible.

They also welcomed devotees to witness and seek the blessings of Lord Hanuman and the temple’s other deities.

The Hanuman statue’s impressive size and exquisite craftsmanship are sure to captivate visitors and inspire spiritual contemplation.
