SC refuses to interfere with HC ban on TikTok
Earlier, the Madras High Court ordered to ban the TikTok application saying it is promoting pornographic and inappropriate content.
A plea was filed by ByteDance, the developer of the app in the Apex Court challenging the order of the High Court. The Supreme Court heard on the plea yesterday.
The Court refused to interfere with the order of Madras High Court that ordered to ban the TitTok app.
It said it won’t interfere with the High Court’s order for now and further hearing would be on April 22 on this matter.
A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna took this decision.
More than 54 million users are using the TikTok app. The users are increasing each month. Several people are downloading this app to create funny videos.
TikTok enables users to create and share videos with their family members, friends, and colleagues.
These videos normally are memes and lip-syncing of songs. Often users create sleazy posts using other social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.
There is a talk that most adult social media users are now getting introduced to TikTok using various other social media platforms.
That’s why there may be inappropriate content on TikTok.
TikTok released a statement saying that it has been improving the existing measures by introducing additional technical and moderation processes. It also is trying continuously to provide committed services and eliminate objectionable content from the platform.
The company added that more than 6 million inappropriate videos have been deleted so far due to violation of its terms and guidelines. These are based on comprehensive reviews of many users in India.
