RSS proposes renaming 3 cities

The name of Gurgaon district was changed as Gurugram in the earlier month by Haryana government where BJP is leading. Now, reports say that RSS has proposed to rename three more cities. The three cities are Ahmedabad, Aurangabad and Hyderabad. The proposed renames for these cities are Karnavati, Sambhaji Nagar and Bhagyanagar respectively.

RSS says historic names are needed to address the cities. The city of Gurgaon was referred to as Gurugram before the change of its name. The name of the place is bonded with its culture and history.

The report of Hindustan Times states that as per one of the Sangh representatives, they want the names of the cities to be historic names but not the names which were given by the invaders.

Earlier also, Sangh and BJP proposed the renaming of various cities. They also changed the name of several places as per the history of place. Bombay was renamed in 1996 as Mumbai by the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance then. It was named after the local goddess Mumbadevi. In 2014 also, 12 cities in Karnataka were renamed after the NDA government anticipated office. Bengaluru is one of them.

Likewise, the name of Gurgaon was changed to Gurugram in the last month. The name was given based on the great epic Mahabharata. The city was believed to be gift of the Guru of Pandavas, Dronacharya to them. Since then it flourished as a financial and industrial center. Thus, the name Gurugram was proposed to it and changed accordingly.

Ahmedabad was known as Karnavati in the history. It was named after Karandev I of Solanki dynasty who ruled it. The name was changed as Ahmedabad by Ahmed Shah I. He named it after four Ahmads including his religious teacher and himself.

Now, RSS proposes to change it as Karnavati. Aurangabad is to be named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji and Hyderabad after Goddess Bhagyalakshmi.
