Gurgaon to be renamed Gurugram

A new decision has been made by the Haryana government regarding its largest city. The government has decided to change the name of the state’s largest Gurgaon to Gurugram. Furthermore, the neighboring district of Mewat will also have its name changed to Nuh.

In Haryana, Gurgaon is the largest city and it is also a very big financial and industrial hub with a huge population of 1.7 million people. However, its historical name is said to be Gurugram. The government has hence decided to change the city back to its historical name.

According to state government spokesman, the government has taken the decision to change the name of Gurgaon to Gurugram based on the representations they received from various fora. The government decided that the renaming is appropriate and it will be accepted by people.

The spokesperson also gave more reasons as to why the name change is appropriate. He said that Haryana is a very historic land connected to the Bhagwat Gita and Gurgaon has historically been a center of learning. He added that the city has been known as Gurugram since the times of Guru

Dronacharya. The city was a great center for education said the spokesperson. He said that this decision will reflect the city’s history well. Changing the name would honor the history it has.

He also said that many people of the area have been demanding the government to make the change in the city’s name to its original. He said that people are supporting the decision of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The city of Gurgaon had a lot of growth since the 1970s. That is when the automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India established a manufacturing plant there. Today, the city has local offices for more than 250 Fortune 500 companies. In the past, Mewat was part of the Gurgaon district. The older name of Mewat used to Nuh.
