Railways to offer food for Navratri | Fusion - WeRIndia

Navratri is one of the biggest festivals in India. Devotees celebrate this festival for nine nights (and ten days) with great joy.

Apart from dancing and singing, various religious rituals like worshipping the Goddess in various forms is quite common during Navratri festival.

The celebrations of Navratri began in India. Several devotees observe fasting during Navratri and prefer to eat specific foods on these days.

In this context, Indian Railways is offering ‘vrat ka khana’ (food during fasting) during the Navratri festival.

Indian Railways has been working to improve the quality of food that is being served in onboard trains and at railway stations.

In this regard, it is taking several steps to enhance their users’ satisfaction. The launching of ‘vrat ka khana’ is also one among them.

The food is included in the e-catering menu of IRCTC.

Food items such as sabudana, lassi, fruit chats, sendha namak, kuttu ka atta etc. are preferred to be eaten by the devotees during their fasting. All these items in addition to Navaratri thali and sabudana khichdi are available on the menu.

Those who want to eat these specific foods can pre-order at least two hours before their scheduled journey time. This can be done using IRCTC’s e-Catering website, www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or though ‘Food-on-track’ app.

In addition to that, select restaurants at some stations will also have these special fasting foods. These stations include Nagpur, Ambala, Jaipur, Itarsi, Jhansi, Nasik, Ratlam, Daund, Mathura, Nizamuddin and Lucknow.

A valid PNR should be provided to order the food. Payment for the food can be made at the time of order or on the delivery time as per the convenience of passengers.

This special food is available in the menu of Indian Railways till November 18.
