PM announces Swachchata Hi Seva Movement

In order to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement‘.

This new cleanliness drive will be started from September 15. In a series of tweets, PM Modi urged all the people to be part of this movement to create a ‘Swachh Bharat‘.

Earlier, in 2014 ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission was launched on October 2 to make India clean. It is also aimed to make India  Open Defecation Free (ODF) India by October 2, 2019.

Several villages have toilets due to Swachh Bharat Mission. And most of them have been announced as ODF villages by their state governments.


PM announced that more than 4.25 lakhs of Villages, 430 Zilas, 2800 Cities and towns, and 19 states have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).

World Health Organization states that around 3 lakh children survived because of using toilets after the launching of Swachh Bharat Mission.

With this year, the mission completes four years.

PM says that it is a historic mass movement. This movement fulfilled dream of Mahatma Gandhi’s Clean India.

Since the beginning of Swachh Bharat, several people got involved the mission. PM Modi in this context saluted all those that worked towards fulfilling the motive of the government.

PM anticipated that the new drive ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’ helps strengthen the efforts of the people to create a Swachh Bharat. He urged everyone should join the mission and make India a Clean India.

On September 15, PM will interact with the people who have been working to strengthen Swachh Bharat Mission. After that, cleanliness activities will commence.

People voluntarily came forward to be part of this movement in which several cleanliness programs had been done.

Though not as much interest is shown these days, many Indian citizens including children are aware of this mission.
