Swachhata hi Seva Campaign Marks a Resounding Success

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a nationwide cleanliness initiative ahead of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary resonated across India as citizens from diverse backgrounds.

People from various categories including politicians and students, joined hands in the Swachhata hi Seva campaign.

This movement, which culminated on September 30, was a resounding success, with more than 9.20 lakh sites adopted for the mega drive, as reported by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.

The Swachhata hi Seva campaign has been celebrated since September 15. It is aimed to foster community participation.

It underscores the significance of clean villages, reinforces the idea of sanitation as a collective duty, and prepares for Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2.

This year, the campaign’s theme was ‘Garbage Free India,’ with a keen focus on visual cleanliness and the welfare of SafaiMitras, the unsung heroes of sanitation.

The response to the Prime Minister’s appeal was overwhelming. Notable figures, including Cabinet ministers and top BJP leaders, actively participated in cleanliness drives across the country.

Uttar Pradesh alone adopted more than a lakh sites for cleanliness efforts, while Maharashtra committed to conducting programs in over 62,000 locations, spanning beaches, religious sites, schools, colleges, and water bodies.

In Telangana, the campaign took a unique turn as historical temples were cleaned during the drive, preserving the heritage of the region.

NGOs, market associations, self-help groups, faith groups, trade bodies, and private sector companies also stepped up for ‘shramdaan’ in more than 22,000 market areas.

In addition, 10,000 water bodies, 7,000 bus stands/toll plazas, 1,000 gaushalas, and various other locations in both rural and urban India have been covered in this drive.

During the 105th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi called upon all citizens to participate in the cleanliness campaign on October 1, marking the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Under the national initiative Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath, people from all walks of life, from politicians to students, wielded brooms and united in the common goal of a cleaner India.

This nationwide drive serves as a powerful reminder of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings on cleanliness and the responsibility each citizen holds towards their nation.

With this resolute commitment to a Garbage Free India, the country takes another significant step towards realizing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s vision, bringing communities together for a cleaner, healthier future.
