New Toll Rules
Good news to FASTag users as they need not wait for more than 10 seconds at toll plazas from now onwards. If they happen to wait, there is no need to pay the toll tax at toll booths.
The government made FASTags mandatory for vehicles to move continuously without waiting at toll plazas. Hence, several people installed them. As per the sources, the waiting time at toll plazas reduced drastically after the implementation of FASTags.
To make sure the vehicles pass smoothly at toll plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued new guidelines for vehicle drivers.
According to the new guidelines, you need not pay the toll tax if your waiting time exceeds 10 seconds at the toll booth.
Here are the complete details:
- New guidelines reduce your waiting time at toll plazas to less than 10 seconds. From now on, you need not pay the toll tax if you wait for more than 10 seconds. This is even during peak hours at toll booths.
- The same thing is applicable for a queue of waiting vehicles of more than 100 metres. That means, if you are standing in a queue of more than 100 meters, you need not pay the toll tax. Thus, there would not be long-standing queues at toll booths. If there is a queue for some reason, vehicles will be allowed to pass toll booths without paying the tax.
- To measure the distance, a yellow line will be marked in every toll lane at a distance of 100 metres from the toll booth.
- Due to social distancing norms also, several vehicle owners switched to FASTags to avoid direct contact with toll operators. Now, all of them can enjoy moving faster at toll plazas without waiting for much time.
