FASTag exempted vehicles
The Government of India made the use of FASTags mandatory at toll plazas saying that there would not be any further extension to get these tags.
As per the notification, all vehicles should have FASTag. But, certain vehicles are exempted from FASTags. The list has 34 codes, which mentions 34 categories. These include VIPs like President of India, Prime Minister of India, Governors and Chief Ministers, MLAs, MPs and many more.
Besides, recipients of Military awards like Param Vir Chakra and other wartime gallantry awards and peacetime awards, are exempted. In addition to that, ambulance and funeral vans are exempted.
Furthermore, vehicles designed for the use of physically challenged people are also exempted.
Though above-said vehicles are exempted, they will have to use FASTag stickers for the uninterrupted movement of vehicles at toll plazas.
These people can get their FASTag stickers free of cost as per their category. But, they have to apply for an exempted FASTag sticker and submit their application along with relevant documents.
Here is the detailed process to be followed for this:
- Visit the website of Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL) to register with them by providing all details like your name, mobile number, email ID and your residing area. Then you will get a user ID and password.
- Using your user ID and password, log in to the website and download the application. Fill it and sign it.
- While uploading the form, select the exempt category and NHAI RO (regional office) to submit your application. Enter the applicant’s name, phone number and email address, and also the vehicle number for which the exemption is required.
- You have to scan the following copies: RC of the vehicle, proof of exemption, your ID proof and filled application form and upload. Then click on the submit button to complete the process.
- You can check your application on the website. You will get an approval message from the authorities if your application is approved. You have to collect the exempted FASTag sticker from the respective RO of NHAI.
