Frequent highway travellers may soon enjoy seamless, toll-free journeys with the government’s proposed Annual and Lifetime Toll Passes.

If approved, this initiative will allow commuters to pay once and travel freely for a year or even 15 years, without stopping at toll plazas.

This move is expected to cut travel time, reduce congestion, and provide a cost-effective solution for daily highway users.

Millions of middle-class car owners who regularly drive on highways will benefit from this toll pass system.

The government plans to introduce two options:

• Annual Toll Pass – Allows unlimited highway travel for one year.
• Lifetime Toll Pass – Provides 15 years of hassle-free highway access.

Currently, only monthly toll passes are available. The introduction of annual and lifetime passes will make highway travel smoother and more affordable for frequent travellers.

While final prices are yet to be announced, reports suggest:

• Annual Toll Pass: Estimated at ₹3,000 per year.
• Lifetime Toll Pass: Expected to cost ₹30,000 for 15 years.

This pricing structure aims to reduce toll expenses for commuters while ensuring better revenue collection for the government. Travellers won’t need a separate card for these new toll passes.

Instead, the FASTag system, which is already in use for electronic toll collection, will be used for activation and payment.

This will ensure a smooth transition without additional paperwork or hardware.
