Karnataka imposes a 14-day lockdown
As the number of COVID-19 cases has been rising in the state, the Karnataka government decided to impose a 14-day lockdown across the state, starting from 9:00 p.m. April 26.
The chief minister BS Yediyurappa said that COVID-19 has been spreading belligerently in the state. The transmission is worse than other COVID-19 affected states like Maharashtra and Delhi. Hence, the government imposed a curfew for two weeks to break the chain of COVID-19.
Karnataka has more than 13 lakhs of COVID-19 cases. It witnessed the biggest single-day spike in the new cases. Hence, the government took this decision.
Here are the details of Karnataka’s lockdown-like curfew:
- Essential services are allowed only for four hours from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. After that, shops will be closed.
- Only manufacturing, construction and agriculture sectors shall remain to function.
- All educational institutions like schools and colleges will remain shut.
- Public transport will remain shut.
- Home delivery of liquor is allowed.
- Except for emergency purposes, both intra-state and inter-state travel will not be permitted.
- The government will implement stringent measures to control the transmission of the novel coronavirus. It sought the cooperation of people.
- Karnataka government also announced free vaccination for all adults in the third phase of vaccination starting from May 1, 2021.
- Kerala government also imposed lockdown-like restrictions starting from today. As per the orders of the government, all social, cultural, political, and religious gatherings are prohibited until further orders.
- Meanwhile, the Delhi government also extended the lockdown for one more week till 5:00 a.m. on May 5. Earlier, CM Kejriwal announced the lockdown in the national capital for one week starting from April 19. As the new COVID-19 cases are rising across Delhi, the government decided to extend the lockdown for one more week.
- The Delhi government also decided to provide free COVID vaccine to all adults in the phase 3 vaccination drive, which will start from May 1.
