IRCTC users can see vacant seats online now

Now, passengers of Indian Railways can view vacant seats online with the new move of IRCTC.

Like airlines, Indian Railways has started displaying reserved charts online so that passengers can see the status of seats at the time of booking in a particular train.

This graphical representation provides information of train coaches and the accommodated seats berth-wise on the website of IRCTC.

The Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said that now Railway passengers can see the information of vacant seats or berths as the reservation charts would be available for public display on the website after the preparation of the chart.

He said that now the entire process becomes transparent.

This will help passengers book the tickets based on the availability of seats and berths. This facility is available on all trains at present. The information on vacant berths even from the intermediate locations would also be available to the users.

Passengers can even view the information on their mobile phones.

This is similar to the process of airlines. Indian Railways would display the information of booked seats, vacant seats and partially booked seats in different colours.

Over 120 different coach layouts and layout of nine classes in the reserved trains have been incorporated for this facility.

The displayed information is based on the First Chart of the train which is prepared four hours prior to the departure of the train.

It also displays the second chart information which is normally prepared 30 minutes prior to the departure of the train.

The facility is expected in the Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains in the coming 20 days.
