India And Russia Focuses On Economic & Defence Ties

India has a good relationship with Russia. Both the countries have jointly collaborated for several things so far.

In order to strengthen bilateral trade and investment, both India and Russia are focussing on the economic and defence ties between the two countries.

Russian deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin who visited India met the foreign minister Sushma Swaraj.

Both the leaders co-chaired a meeting of the IRIGC-TEC to promote cooperation between the two countries on economic, scientific and technological issues.


Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman also met Rogozin to discuss on boosting the bilateral defence and security bonds between the two countries by way of developing crucial military platforms and manufacturing of weapon systems jointly.

This is the third visit for Rogozin this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his visit to St Petersburg in June spoke with satisfaction about the growth of high level exchanges between the countries.

A government statement was released on this, which stated that both the PM of India and the deputy PM of Russia discussed on expanding and diversifying the bilateral bonds. They noted the need of joint collaboration especially in the energy sector and cooperation to promote high technology.

Now, on the visit of Russian deputy PM, the union External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had a comprehensive discussion on economic cooperation. The main areas would be trade and investment, energy, agriculture, industry, transport and space.

Even the Indian defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also described to the Russian Deputy PM about numerous policy initiatives that were taken by the government to promote the domestic defence industry.

She also explained that the reform measures can boost the growth of defence sector so that the Russian companies can get advantage due to it.

The sharing of various defence technologies to manufacture the military equipment and platforms can promote strong military background for both the countries.
