Want to raise your UPI limit? Here’s how and what’s changing
India’s digital payments system is booming, and UPI (Unified Payments Interface) stands at the centre of this revolution.
It’s fast, easy, and widely used. However, the current daily transaction limit of ₹1 lakh often becomes a hurdle for users needing to make high-value payments.
If you are among those looking to increase this limit, here’s a step-by-step guide:
How to Increase Your UPI Limit
Check Your Current Limit: First, open your UPI or bank app to view your transaction limit.
Complete KYC: Ensure your bank account is fully KYC-compliant. Without KYC, you can’t request a higher limit.
Request a Limit Increase: Visit your bank branch or log into your net/mobile banking to apply for a limit enhancement.
Wait for Approval: The bank will review your request and transaction history. Approval may take 1–2 working days.
Use Another UPI ID If Needed: You can also link a second bank account to another UPI ID to continue large transfers.
Banks set individual UPI limits, so the process may differ slightly between banks.
In a move to improve efficiency and security, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced several new UPI rules effective August 1:
- Balance Check Limit: Users can now perform a maximum of 50 balance enquiries per UPI app per day, within a rolling 24-hour window. You can still check balances on other apps separately.
- Post-Payment Info: After each successful UPI transaction, the app must display your available bank balance.
- Auto-Pay Time Slots: Banks must process recurring payments (auto-debits) within fixed time slots to avoid server overload and ensure smooth functioning.
These changes aim to reduce network congestion, speed up transactions, and increase security for users.
If you frequently hit the ₹1 lakh cap, increasing your limit or linking another account can help.
Stay aware of these updates to avoid payment interruptions and continue enjoying seamless digital transactions.
