National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Moscow from 10 to 11 September to discuss peace efforts to resolve the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

During the visit, he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore potential solutions.

This visit comes as part of India’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine.

Doval will also attend the BRICS-NSA meeting, which brings together representatives from various countries.

These include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, as well as recently expanded members Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia.

On the sidelines of this meeting, Doval is expected to engage in bilateral talks with his Russian and Chinese counterparts, continuing discussions from the BRICS summit in July held in Moscow.

The timing of Doval’s visit follows a significant phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Putin last month. In that conversation, these two leaders discussed pathways to peace.

Modi informed Putin that Doval would be visiting Moscow to further these discussions, though he did not specify exact dates at that time.

In August, PM Modi also visited Ukraine, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During their joint statement in Kyiv, Modi emphasized that talks and discussions remain the only way to resolve the conflict.

He expressed India’s support for peace efforts and offered to mediate talks between Russia and Ukraine.

While Modi’s visit to Russia earlier this year received criticism from the West and Ukrainian leaders, India continues to position itself as a facilitator for dialogue.

PM Modi’s stance remains clear, reaffirming that India is on the side of peace. The country is neutral, yet it has an active role in seeking a resolution to the war.

Doval’s upcoming trip to Moscow will likely advance these peace initiatives while addressing broader geopolitical concerns within the BRICS framework.
