India-Iran sign 9 agreements

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, has spent a three-day visit in India, in order to smoothen the ties between Indian and Iran.

On the third and last day of his visit, he was greeted by Ram Nath Kovind and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The leaders of the two countries discussed how, under Rouhani’s leadership, the ties between India and Iran have grown much stronger.

The two of them also expressed how they want to increase trade and connectivity between the two countries, and to strengthen their cultural ties.

They have signed nine agreements, which will strengthen the connection between Iran and India in the future.

Modi and Rouhani discussed several issues on the table, but their main focus was trade.

One of the agreements signed by the two leaders was on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of any fiscal evasion linked to income taxes.

They also want to provide a more frequent and a wider range of bilateral exchanges at all levels, which will intensify the existing high-level engagement.

India is also beginning the Chabahar port project with Iran, and the two countries have signed a lease for the Shahid Beheshti Port in the city.

Part of the port will be taken over for 18 months to begin Part 1 of the port development.

Already, India is shipping a delivery of 1.1 million tons of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar, which allows them to trade with Afghanistan without going through Pakistan.

The Chabahar port project will allow India to consistently trade with Afghanistan while bypassing Pakistan. India and Iran also discussed the subject of terrorism.

The two leaders said that terrorism should not be associated with religion, ethnicity, or nationality, and that all people who provide support or sanctuary to terrorist groups should be condemned.

Rouhani and Modi are hoping to strengthen the ties between their two countries and make both of them better places.
