Goods trains to have a time table soon
Indian Railways has made a decision to give goods trains in the country to have two dedicated corridors and a time table. The aim of this move is to improve the freight train operation and the delivery schedule.
It is a known fact that passenger trains have a proper schedule in place along with systems to enquire about any delay of change in timings. This system is now being introduced to goods trains by the Indian Railways. Indian Railways hopes to attract more loadings by improving the delivery schedule.
The present situation is that goods trains will be kept waiting on busy tracks across India in order to allow the passenger trains to pass through. As a result, this causes a lot of delay and creates uncertainty about the delivery of goods by the trains.
In order to supervise, construct, and maintain the setup of Dedicated Freight Corridors, a corporation called Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation is being held in charge. DFCC is constructing two corridors – the Western DFC and Eastern DFC.
Western DFC connects Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port, and passes through the states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Eastern DFC begins from Dankuni in West Bengal and ends in Punjab by reaching Ludhiana. It passes through Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Haryana.
