Centre to launch e-Shram portal tomorrow
To maintain a database of unorganised sector workers, the central government decided to launch the e-Shram portal tomorrow. Due to the lack of a common portal for them, many unorganised workers do not have access to any form of social security schemes of the government. Besides, several of them are not getting minimum wages for their work. In this context, the government wants to launch a portal for them.
Yesterday, the Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav launched the logo of the portal.
There are around 38 crore unorganised workers like street vendors, domestic workers, construction labourers, migrant workers etc., in the country. The government wants to register all of them in a database and issue an e-Shram card.
Here are a few things to know about the e-Shram portal:
- Workers can begin their registration immediately after the launch of the portal.
- The Labour Ministry, state governments, trade unions and CSCs, and officials will collectively involve with the registration process to ensure hassle-free registration.
- The objective of launching the portal is to integrate various social security schemes of the government.
- Workers will be issued an e-Shram card containing a 12-digit unique number after registration. This card can be used by them in social security schemes.
- The government plans to conduct awareness campaigns among workers on the benefits of registration on the e-Shram portal.
- A national toll-free number, 14434, will be dedicated to this portal to assist workers with registration and address their queries.
- A worker needs to fill in necessary details like date of birth, mobile number, bank account details, home town, and social category.
- The enrollment process is easy, and workers can register using their Aadhaar card number and mobile number.
