Centre to launch door-to-door vaccination drive soon
The vaccination drive has been going on in the country. Recently, India crossed the 100-crore vaccination mark and celebrated the occasion. Now, the cumulative doses administered in the country has exceeded 103.53 crores.
Still, many eligible people in the country have not received the vaccine. As per sources, more than 10 crore people missed their second dose of vaccine.
In this context, the central government decided to launch a mega vaccine drive, Har Ghar Dastak, soon. Under this vaccine drive, healthcare workers will visit door-to-door to vaccinate all eligible people.
People who missed their second dose and those who have not taken their first dose of vaccine can receive it using the campaign.
The government held a review session with health ministers of various states and union territories on this matter before announcing the launch of the mega vaccine drive.
The main aim of this campaign is to inoculate all eligible people and improve the number of beneficiaries of vaccines in the country.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the government decided to launch the Har Ghar Dastak campaign next month.
He added that the districts where fewer eligible people had received jabs would be given special attention. So far, 48 such districts had been identified in the country. In these districts, less than 50% eligible population has taken vaccines.
While 77% of the eligible population in the country got vaccinated with the first dose, only 32% received both doses. Over 10 crore people had missed their second dose. The government focuses on these people as both doses of vaccination are important to protect against COVID-19.
The central government asked all states and UTs to focus on these people and get them vaccinated as per the schedule.
Some states and UTs successfully administered both doses of vaccine to more than half of their population. They include Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Daman and Diu.
