COVID-19 has been trembling the world since the last quarter of 2019. Though the effect seems subsided for a few months, again, cases have been rising in the country for the past few months.

In the wake of alarming cases, many states imposed restrictions on public gatherings. It is essential to control the spread of COVID-19 to break the chain of the virus. Hence, the central government advised states and union territories to impose restrictions on certain activities in their regions.

Besides, the Centre also takes measures to control public gatherings wherever it can. Extension of validity of driving licence and vehicle documents like registration, fitness, permit etc., is one such measure.

The central government yesterday extended the validity of motor vehicle documents till June 30, 2021. The motor vehicle documents like driving licence and other above-mentioned documents, which had expired during February 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, will be treated as valid till June 30, 2021. In other words, even though they were expired, they are treated as valid documents.

This is due to the effects of the pandemic in the country and restrictions, which have been going on in various states since its prevalence.

The Centre extended the validity of these documents a few times in the past also through some notifications. In this context, it cited various advisories issued on this matter dated March 30, 2020, June 9, 2020, August 24, 2020, and December 27, 2020.

With the last notification, the validity of these documents will be till March 31, 2021. But as per the latest notification, the documents will be valid till June 30, 2021.

Since it is the latest advisory issued on the validity of expired motor vehicle documents, the central government urges all states to implement it properly by informing the concerned authorities. It also advised the states to make sure that no citizen is harassed for the expiry of these documents during the above said period.
