Budget Session of Parliament to begin on January 31

The Budget Session of Parliament will start on January 31, 2025, marking the beginning of a crucial period in Indian politics.

The session will begin with discussions on President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament.

On February 2, President Murmu will address both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha together in the Lok Sabha chamber.

This speech will set the tone for the upcoming discussions on the government’s plans for the year.

Following the President’s address, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the General Budget on February 3, 2025.

The General Budget is a major event, outlining the government’s economic plans and priorities for the coming year.

On the same day, the Finance Minister will also table the Economic Survey, a report that gives an overview of the economic performance of the country in the previous year and projections for the future.

After the President’s address, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will convene briefly to discuss the Economic Survey.

The Lok Sabha has allocated two days, February 3 and 4, for discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address. Rajya Sabha has earmarked three days for the debate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to reply to the debate in the Rajya Sabha on February 6.

In preparation for the Budget Session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has scheduled a meeting with floor leaders of all political parties on January 30. This meeting aims to ensure smooth functioning and cooperation during the session.

The first part of the Budget Session will run from January 31 to February 13, with nine sittings.

After a break for a recess on February 13 to examine the budget proposals, the session will reconvene on March 10.

Parliament will discuss demands for grants from various ministries before completing the budgetary process.

The session will conclude on April 4, 2025. In total, the session will have 27 sittings, making it a critical time for the government to present and debate its financial agenda.
