Key bills set for debate as Parliament reconvenes

Legislative business and political confrontation are expected to dominate Parliament this week.

Parliament will resume its Monsoon Session on Monday for the third consecutive week. The Centre plans to push several pending Bills for discussion and passage.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is expected to continue raising contentious issues that have disrupted proceedings since the session began.

In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh will introduce the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026.

Additionally, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to table the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 for consideration and passage. Both Bills form part of the government’s legislative agenda for the ongoing session.

The Rajya Sabha will also take up important business. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is expected to introduce the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

The government aims to secure its passage during the current session.

However, legislative work is likely to face fresh challenges. The first two weeks of the Monsoon Session witnessed repeated adjournments and heated exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches.

Consequently, several scheduled discussions and legislative matters remained incomplete.

Opposition parties have continued protesting over issues such as examination paper leaks, police action against demonstrators during the Jantar Mantar protest, and allegations related to the Ram Mandir donation theft case.

Therefore, disruptions may continue even as the government attempts to advance its legislative programme.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury has submitted an adjournment motion seeking an immediate discussion on the financial transparency and functioning of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

She has requested suspension of Question Hour, Zero Hour, and other listed business to facilitate the debate.

Moreover, she has demanded an independent audit of the Trust’s accounts and a detailed government statement on its regulatory framework, financial reporting, oversight, and disclosure mechanisms.

Meanwhile, Congress Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari has also moved an adjournment motion. He has sought suspension of the day’s listed business to discuss the Anti-Defection Law.

As both sides prepare for another week of political confrontation, Parliament is expected to witness intense debates alongside crucial legislative business.
