Government lists 15 Bills for winter Parliament session

The government is going to introduce various bills in the upcoming winter session of Parliament, starting on November 25, 2024.

As many as 15 crucial bills will be introduced and discussed in this session as per sources.

Of these 15 bills, five are newly drafted, including a proposal to establish a cooperative university.

The session, which concludes on December 20, aims to address legislative priorities with a mix of new and pending bills.


One key item on the agenda is the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. It is awaiting the joint committee’s report.

The committee is expected to submit its findings during the first week of the session, enabling the Lok Sabha to consider and pass the bill.

Additionally, the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill is among the eight pending legislations in the Lok Sabha, while two await discussion in the Rajya Sabha.

The Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill is another significant draft legislation scheduled for introduction.

It proposes increasing the pecuniary appellate jurisdiction of Delhi district courts from ₹3 lakh to ₹20 lakh, ensuring faster resolution of higher-value cases.

In the maritime sector, the Merchant Shipping Bill is set to ensure India’s adherence to its international treaty obligations.

Alongside this, the Coastal Shipping Bill and the Indian Ports Bill aim to streamline operations and promote the modernization of India’s coastal and port infrastructure.

The government is also pushing for the smooth passage of important bills carried over from previous sessions.

With several proposals addressing diverse areas, the session promises robust discussions. The legislative agenda reflects the government’s focus on reforms and its commitment to addressing public needs efficiently.

This session’s outcomes are expected to have a lasting impact, especially with the inclusion of reforms in maritime laws, judicial jurisdiction, and cooperative education systems.

Stakeholders anticipate productive debates leading to the swift passage of critical legislation.
