Parliament Budget Session 2025: Highlights and key schedule
The Budget Session of Parliament for 2025 is set to take place from January 31 to April 4, presenting a pivotal period for India’s economic and legislative agenda.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will unveil her eighth consecutive Union Budget on February 1, outlining the government’s fiscal policies and developmental priorities.
In keeping with tradition, the session will open with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31.
Her speech will outline the government’s vision and objectives for the upcoming year.
Following this, the Economic Survey will be tabled, offering an in-depth analysis of India’s economic performance and a roadmap for future growth.
The session will be conducted in two distinct phases. The first part will run from January 31 to February 13, spanning nine sittings.
During this phase, the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address will be debated, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to respond.
Finance Minister Sitharaman will also participate in discussions, addressing the Union Budget’s proposals and their implications for the nation’s progress.
After a scheduled recess, Parliament will reconvene for the second phase on March 10.
This segment will focus on the detailed examination of the budget proposals, including the demands for grants from various ministries.
Lawmakers will discuss and deliberate on sectoral allocations, ensuring transparency and accountability in government spending.
With a total of 27 sittings planned, this Budget Session is vital for shaping India’s economic trajectory.
It will provide a platform to deliberate on key policy measures, address challenges, and set the stage for sustained growth in 2025 and beyond.
