Aadhar-PAN linking deadline extended
The government has made it mandatory to link the PAN and Aadhar card for the citizens. This move was announced a long time ago. However, it is not a small task to be achieved in a country with such a big population.
As a result, many people have still not yet linked the two cards. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has become even more difficult for people to link the cards.
Therefore, considering the present circumstances, MoS Finance Anurag Thakur has announced the extension of the deadline to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with the Aadhaar card by 3 months, from June 30 to September 30, 2021. Failing to do so would lead to the PAN card becoming inoperative, and there would be a penalty of up to ₹1,000 by the Income Tax department.
The CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) stated that if the PAN card is not linked with the Adhaar Card in the given extension, it would not be valid.
The linking of Aadhar and PAN were made mandatory as per Section 139AA. The process of linking these two cards can be done on the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department.
Log on to the website incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, the official website of Income Tax e-filing.
On the left side of the menu bar on the homepage, select the option ‘Link Aadhar’.
Provide details like the holder’s name, Aadhar number, PAN number etc.
Verify the furbished details and fill in the captcha code.
Finally, click on the link Aadhar option.
The procedure of linking PAN and Aadhar card will be completed after your details are verified by the income-tax department.
