You have to pay double penalty for not linking PAN & Aadhaar

The government made the linking of PAN with Aadhaar number mandatory. It changed the deadline for the linking of these cards several times due to several reasons.

Of late, the deadline for PAN and Aadhaar card link has been extended up to 30th June 2022. After that, the users who do not link their cards should have to pay a penalty of up to ₹1,000.

Earlier, the government asked citizens to link PAN and Aadhaar cards before 31st March 2022 or else they have to pay ₹500. Now, the deadline has been extended till 30th June. However, users who fail to link their cards before 31st March 2022 should have to pay ₹500.

They can link their cards before 30th June by paying a late fee of ₹500. Their PAN cards remain functional till March 2023 and can be used to file income tax returns and TDS and other financial transactions.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued a circular. In that circular, it stated that individuals who fail to link their PAN with Aadhaar number by the end of June month would have to pay a double penalty, i.e. ₹1,000.

The late fee can be paid by Challan No ITNS 280 with Major head 0021 and Minor head 500.

If you don’t link your PAN with your Aadhaar number within the given time, your PAN may become inoperative. Without a PAN, you cannot perform any significant financial transactions.

So, the CBDT urges people to link their PAN with the Aaddhar card number. Linking these cards is simple and easy.

Visit the official website of income tax India and choose the Link Aadhaar option. It will lead to a new window. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar card details, name and mobile. Then click on the I validate my Aadhaar details option to continue the process. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile. Enter the OTP number and validate it. Pay the penalty. Then, your cards will be linked.
