How to make aloe vera gel at home and preserve

Aloe vera gel has many uses, especially if it does not contain harmful preservatives. If you make aloe vera gel at your home, you can have its benefits completely as you know that it is free of chemicals.

You need aloe vera leaves to make a gel. If you have the plant at home, you can use it. Or else, you can buy them at a grocery store or directly from farmers.

If you are buying leaves from the market, make sure that they are grown organically.

Wash aloe vera leaves thoroughly to remove dirt. Keep it in a bowl for 15 minutes and allow them to dry. It also helps remove yellow-tinted resin from the leaves. Wash them again and peel off the skin using a knife or vegetable peeler.

You will find the gel after peeling off them. Take a spoon and scoop it into a blender. Whip it for a few seconds till it becomes liquefied. Keep it in an air-tight container and store it in the refrigerator. As you have not added any preservatives, you have to use the gel within a week.

If you want to use it for more than a week and up to one or two months, you need to add vitamin E and C capsules.

Vitamins C and E contain antioxidants. Hence, they increase the shelf life of aloe vera gel if you add them as preservatives.

You have to add 500 mg of powdered vitamin C or 400 IU of powdered vitamin E in 60 ml of aloe vera gel. You can also add both vitamins. Add them to the gel while blending. Keep the gel in an air-tight container and store it in the refrigerator. You can use it for two months.

If the gel is stored in the deep freezer, its shelf life will be increased for up to six months. For this, keep the gel in ice cube trays and store it in a deep freezer. The frozen gel can be stored for up to six months.
