Follow these tips to be healthy
Healthy eating is essential for physical and mental wellbeing.
Here are some tips for healthy eating:
- Eat slowly by chewing thoroughly to maintain weight. Hormones influence your appetite and the quantity you eat, and thereby signal your brain. It takes at least 20 minutes for the brain to receive such messages. Hence, slow eating will help you manage weight by avoiding overeating.
- A balanced diet is vital to get all the essential nutrients your body needs. Hence, include proteins, fibre-rich foods, carbohydrates, vegetables and fruits in your diet.
- Cook your own meal at home to monitor your diet. If you eat outside food, you cannot have an idea of ingredients and their quantity. Besides, their quality is not known. But, cooking your own meal ensures that you are eating a fresh and well-balanced diet.
- Drink enough water to maintain weight. Studies showed that those who drink water instead of other beverages consumed at least 200 fewer calories per day on an average.
- Stop emotional eating to soothe your negative feelings like stress, anger, boredom etc. Maintain a diary to write down about the food you eat and intervals between the meals. Also, if you are eating to control your emotions, note it down and find out what triggers your emotional eating. It helps you stop unnecessary eating and thereby weight gain.
- Eat mindfully with your family members. Avoid eating in front of a television or computer. Rather eat with your family members to focus on what you eat and how much you eat. It also strengthens the bonding between family members.
- Avoid late-night eating. It can increase the risk of obesity, cholesterol levels etc. So, have your dinner by 8:00-9:00 p.m.
- Don’t skip your breakfast. Having a healthy breakfast keeps you energize throughout the day and increases cognitive performance. Ideal breakfast contains protein, wholegrain cereals and fruits.
- Limit your salt and sugar intake. It helps control blood pressure, cholesterol and weight. It also prevents you from several health issues.
