Beeswax is produced by honeybees. It is a byproduct obtained during honey harvest. It has numerous benefits. Especially, it is used in skincare products.

Though beeswax is hard when cold, it can be made softer by heating up. It is used as an emulsifier in many cosmetic products, skincare lotions and lip balms.

Beeswax is known for its benefits which are mentioned as follows:

  • Beeswax keeps skin soft and smooth. That’s why it is widely used in moisturizers, body creams and lotions.
  • It keeps the skin hydrated and prevents it from being dried. It also protects your skin from external damage-causing agents.
  • It nourishes your skin. Due to its softening properties, it is also used in lip balms. It keeps them supple and hydrated.
  • As an exfoliator, it helps rejuvenates the skin. It also keeps it fresh by removing dead skin cells.
  • It has many antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Hence, it can repair damaged skin.
  • It is beneficial for those who have dry skin. It is extensively used in makeup products. In addition, it is also used in baby products.
  • With its antiseptic properties, it can protect your skin from microbes and pathogens.
  • Beeswax can keep your skin glowing. It works as a protective barrier from external damage.

Though beeswax is suitable for all skin conditions, some people may be allergic to them. Hence, it is better to go for a patch test for allergies before using a product with beeswax.

Some adverse effects listed due to the use of beeswax:

A burning sensation, redness, itchiness, skin swelling etc., are commonly reported by people those have allergic to beeswax. You can do a patch test and discontinue using such products if you experience any of these reactions.

Beeswax does not dissolve in water. So, you must use an oil-based cleanser to remove it from your skin.
