A tragic railway accident in Odisha’s Balasore district has left everyone in shock. This devastating incident claimed the lives of around 300 people. The rescue operation at the accident site has been completed, and efforts to restore normalcy are currently underway.
Following the accident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced an ex gratia payment of ₹10 lakhs for the deceased, ₹2 lakhs for the seriously injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries.

Moreover, it provides financial assistance for medical expenses and compensates the nominee in case of a passenger’s unfortunate demise.
In the unfortunate event of a passenger’s death or permanent disability due to a train accident, the insurance policy pays out an amount of up to ₹10 lakhs.
If the passenger becomes partially disabled, they receive compensation of ₹7.5 lakhs. For serious injuries, an assistance amount of ₹2 lakhs is provided. In the case of minor injuries, passengers receive up to ₹10,000 as compensation.
