Howrah-Amritsar Mail: The Indian train with 111 stops

Indian Railways is renowned for its vast network, connecting the entire country and offering journeys across diverse landscapes.

Among its many trains, the Howrah-Amritsar Mail stands out for a unique reason—it makes an astonishing 111 stops, more than any other train in India.

This remarkable train runs between Howrah in West Bengal and Amritsar in Punjab, covering a distance of 1,910 kilometres in 37 hours.

The Howrah-Amritsar Mail passes through five Indian states. These include West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.

While major stations like Asansol, Patna, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bareilly, Ambala, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar see longer stops, the train only halts for 1 to 2 minutes at smaller stations.

This ensures that passengers from a wide variety of locations have the opportunity to board or alight along its extensive route.

The train’s schedule is designed to cater to as many passengers as possible. It departs from Howrah Station at 7:15 PM and reaches Amritsar at 8:40 AM on the third day.

On its return journey, the train leaves Amritsar at 6:25 PM and arrives back at Howrah at 7:30 AM on the third day.

Its carefully planned timetable ensures that it serves a broad range of passengers, from those in small towns to travellers heading to larger cities.

Despite its extensive route and long journey, the Howrah-Amritsar Mail offers affordable ticket prices to all passengers, making it accessible to a wide range of passengers.

Here’s a breakdown of the ticket costs:

The ticket fare for a sleeper class is ₹695, and the third AC costs ₹1,870. The fares for the first and second AC are ₹4,835 and ₹4,835, respectively.

With its extensive network of stops, budget-friendly fares, and the ability to connect passengers from various regions, the Howrah-Amritsar Mail exemplifies Indian Railways’ commitment to serving the country’s diverse population.
