Young farmer Sujith redefines agriculture with technology and style
In a remarkable fusion of modernity and tradition, Sujith SP, a dynamic farmer from Kerala, has been making waves with his innovative farming practices.
Known as the Variety Farmer on social media, Sujith is challenging agricultural stereotypes and changing the way we view farming.
Sujith, an organic farmer for over a decade, gained fame by sharing his journey in videos, primarily focusing on fruit and vegetable cultivation.
In 2021, he transformed 2.5 acres of paddy fields into a sunflower paradise, drawing hordes of tourists to his village.
Alongside his fellow farmers in Kanjikuzhi panchayat, Sujith leases around 20 acres of land, where he cultivates a variety of vegetables.
Some of them are okra, long beans, bitter gourd, and snake gourd. His experimentation extends to winter vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage, all yielding successful results.
The pandemic has rekindled a passion for farming, particularly among the younger generation, who now see it as a viable income source.
However, marketing agricultural produce remains a significant challenge. Sujith has turned to technology to address this issue.
He has innovatively branded and sold his produce with QR codes, offering users detailed information about the cultivation methods and growth conditions of the vegetables.
The QR codes allow customers to access data about the seeds used, farming techniques, manure, pesticides, and even videos showcasing the farms.
Notably, Sujith’s commitment to organic farming shines through his entire operation.
Sujith’s farming endeavours extend to more than 15 acres of leased land across Kanjikuzhi, Thanneermukkom etc.
His innovative approach has garnered recognition. Many people praise him as a role model for young farmers. In 2014, the state government honoured Sujith as the best youth farmer.
However, Sujith’s impact isn’t limited to just the farming community.
He recently posted a video on his official Instagram account that went viral, where he defied expectations by arriving at a roadside market in a luxurious Audi A4 sedan to sell his vegetables.
The video received over 446,000 likes and a staggering 8 million views, demonstrating the admiration and respect for his dedication and unique approach to farming.
In the ever-evolving world of agriculture, Sujith’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration.
Also, it showcases how technology and innovation can redefine age-old practices and challenge stereotypes, all while leaving room for a touch of style and luxury.
